In 2005 Liz was appointed a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to the fashion industry. Her garments are on display at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, and have been worn at previous Academy Award ceremonies by Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes and Oscar winner Richard Taylor (Weta Workshop) and his wife Tania Rodgers. Royal Zara Phillips wore a Liz Mitchell gown whilst visiting New Zealand in 2005 and Cindy Taylor, of E Entertainment, became a fan of Liz Mitchell's gowns during L'Oreal New Zealand Fashion Week in 2003. New Zealand's former Prime Minister Helen Clark, currently Head of The United Nations Development Programme, was also dressed by Liz Mitchell for special occasions.
Inspired by the contemporary masters of design, such as Issey Miyake, Giorgio Armani and Vivienne Westwood, Liz loves to re-interpret classic feminine silhouettes. Growing up, she adored Christian Dior's 50s collections with their flowing bias cut skirts and hourglass shapes.
Liz's knowledge of and respect for design history is reflected in her own work. Her exquisite evening wear, glamorous made to measure garments and sophisticated ready to wear designs are an expression of modernity, with a whisper of tradition.

In 2006 Liz Mitchell expanded her collections, joining forces with New Zealand's premier retail store Farmers to create the Mitchell by Liz Mitchell ready to wear diffusion range, available exclusively through selected Farmers stores.
With a background in fine arts and theatre, Liz brings a sense of drama to her enduring and glamorous designs. Her 2006 Air New Zealand Fashion Week collection, Undercurrent, exemplified this signature style fusing Hollywood A-list glamour with the highly sculptured silhouettes and precise tailoring reminiscent of the 1950s European couturiers such as the master of haute couture, Balenciaga.
Beautiful textiles in distinctive hues are another Liz Mitchell hallmark. A self confessed texture person, Liz often juxtaposes luxurious silks, velvets and delicate laces with New Zealand-sourced raw materials such as wool, leather and feathers.
In addition to working closely with her Production Team, Liz also collaborates with local craft and textile artists to create unique signature accessories to compliment her garments.
